This week I had a lovely chat with Michele Bavaro of the Gilded Goddess located in Fair Haven, NJ. We talked about her career change, favorite local spots and what she has planned for her business in 2022!
Where are you from and where do you live now?
I am originally from Staten Island, NY and currently call Fair Haven, NJ home.
Tell us about your business!
My business began a few years ago when I was on a mission to find a product that would give me a natural looking tan because I wanted to avoid the long term effects of the sun. In Suvara, I found an organic solution, inclusive of anti-aging ingredients that result in a “good for you” natural looking tan. After being a Suvara client myself I was hooked on the hydrating and nourishing effects it had on my skin; and I became a Suvara Certified Artist. I custom blend every tan into a color that is specific to each client. I use a handheld HVLP machine that allows me to provide flawless coverage.
What is your background? What made you go into what you’re doing now?
My background is in education and the arts. I combined my love of learning with my lifelong love of the beauty industry. I love skin care and I am always looking for preventative measures! With spray tanning, I am able to customize a flawless tan and help keep my clients out of the damaging rays of the sun.
What do you love about having a business in Monmouth County?
What I love most is that many of my clients are Jersey Shore natives. They want to enjoy outdoor activities and I am able to help them achieve that healthy glow without the damaging effects of the sun. Being able to arrive at an event or the beach club already “sun kissed” allows clients to protect their skin while “glowing” with confidence.
What has been the most challenging part of running your business during Covid? How did you overcome it?
The most challenging part is that many events were canceled. People were home, not vacationing and not attending normal functions. My business almost came to a complete halt! I returned to education while maintaining relationships with my established clients. When the world started opening up again they began to reach out and reminded me they wanted to look and feel their best!
What are some exciting plans you have for 2022?
Starting at the end of January I will be offering spray tanning at Proper & Polished in Fair Haven! I am so excited to offer a luxury spray tanning experience in a salon I love in the town that I love!
What’s your favorite business in Monmouth County (other that yours!)?
This is a challenging question to answer….there are so many wonderful businesses in Monmouth County! From downtown Red Bank….to fabulous salons such as Proper & Polished, to restaurants such as Undici and Tommy’s Tavern & Tap….shopping in the Grove. Not to mention places to be creative such as A Time to Kiln and Pinot’s Palette in Manalapan. It’s so hard to pick just one! The proximity to the beach coupled with the warmth and care of the residents are why I love living and working in Monmouth County!
